by Dani 'Rat' Hunt Voting is now open for the second year of the “Shining Light Award” sponsored by the late Marion Randles.
https://forms.gle/whngkVLNdLGP8s936 Marion sadly passed away recently after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease. A long time supporter of the hobby, she wished to sponsor this award to honour her memory going forward. As per her wishes, the award is to be given each year to a hobbyist, nominated and voted on by you, in recognition of their services to the wider hobby or someone who is an emerging talent/rising star. The winner will receive a rosette, certificate and have their name engraved on the trophy in their winning year. Follow the link to see the nominees for this year, and the reasons why they've been nominated. Thank you to everyone who cast a nomination - it's been heartwarming to read all your messages! Voting will close on August 31st at 11:59pm.

by Dorothy Jacobs BMECS is searching for knowledgeable judges and stewards for this year’s championship show, applications are open NOW! Not only will you be helping to support our hobby and receive the undying gratitude of your hard-working BMECS team, but you will receive TREASURE in the form of a lovely gift! Do you enjoy putting things in order? Do you scrutinise every last detail? Have you stared long and hard at a model horse line-up before? If you answered YES to those questions, then we want you! We're on the lookout for potential judges for this year's BMECS. If you're at least 18 and have judged at a BMECS qualifier, you're eligible to put yourself forward to judge at the championship! Please note that you do not have to be an entrant this year in order to judge. So, if you fancy helping to decide the best of the best, the cream of the crop, the horse of the...er, show, then please complete the application and tell us a bit about yourself. All of our judges are rewarded for their time, effort and expertise with a unique prize, too. Please note that you cannot judge any class in which you, or a family member a) own a horse, b) painted/sculpted a horse, or c) owned a horse within the last year. ** Please be sure to download a copy of the file, "save as", and edit on your computer before submitting. PLEASE DO NOT TYPE YOUR INFORMATION DIRECTLY INTO THE GOOGLE DOC. ** Please complete the form at: BMECS 2023 Judging App.docx - Google Docs (or from the files below) and send the completed application to [email protected] by no later than 4th September.
by Dani 'Rat' Hunt Would you like to sponsor a section at BMECS this year? Although we're sending out these forms with everyone's spreadsheets, we know that some of you may want to sponsor without even attending. So I'm here to tell you how! Have a look at the attached document. If you decide you'd like to sponsor anything, fill it out and return it to us at [email protected] and we'll let you when to send payment for your chosen section. Two sections have already gone, so if you want your name printed in shiny colours on a rosette, you'd better hurry!
by Emma Whitney The Best of British awards are designed to celebrate some of the finest creative work British artists have to offer! At this year’s show, there will be six classes for any work made by British model horse artists between October 2022 and September 2023.
There is one entry per artist per class. You must show your own work or proxy with permission, but do please let us know by email if you intend to proxy. BMECS cards are not needed to enter into these classes. Special prizes and rosettes will be awarded. Classes 4-6 will run on Saturday 30th September. Classes 1-3 will run on Sunday 1st October. *** 1. UK finishwork. Models of any material, including customs. Only paint job or custom glazing will be judged. Factory or AA finishwork is excluded from this class. 2. UK Custom Work. A model in any material that has been altered in any way, including rehairing. Complete customisation will be judged. 3. UK Sculpture. Must be shown blank/primed. 4. UK Props and Dolls. No horses please. Entry must consist of one doll OR one prop. 5. UK Tack. No dolls or props. You may have a horse or display stand if desired. Only the tack will be judged. 6. Pirate themed. Open to any creative work—finish work, custom work, sculpture, props, dolls, tack or scenery—that is pirate themed to fit the theme of this year’s show. If in doubt about whether your entry is appropriate to the theme, please ask. Your entry in this class may not also be entered into any of the other five classes. Please see comments section for clarification on scene entries and whether this can include bought items. *** Both realistic and fantasy entries are accepted, as are busts and medallions in classes 1-3. Plain stands and turntables are allowed in all classes but please do not include additional props or scenery in order to allow the individual piece to shine. References and progress photos are always welcomed. Note: Collaborative works are allowed if: 1. Both/all artists are British or Irish residents 2. Both/all have agreed to the entry being shown and there is proof of this (please email us before the show) 3. Both/all have decided how the prize is to be shared as there are no extras available 4. The collaboration is between two or more artists who both worked on the element specified in the class, for example two painters who both contributed to an entry in class 1. All entries must be entered by the artist themselves (or proxy). Entries may not be made by owners who did not create/work on the piece. Each entry may only be shown in one class.
